I wish it was all guided. Coming up with designs stressed me out!

Practice is one of those things that's scary to share because there will be mistakes and it is uncomfortable to let people see that. Do it anyways. Nothing is perfect.

Joining the @opusartsupplies #opusdailypractice a few days late and I'm going MINI! I didnt realize there were daily prompts so I just drew what was around me. I think I'll continue to do that because practice is practice, prompts or not.

All my little pieces will be 1x1.5", ink and watercolour.

The music fit too well not to use, but I assure you, I felt nothing but joy printing these new little frogs prints.

I had a great time testing the carving blocks and ink that come with this $35 blockprinting kit. The carving tool was dangerously dull, so I used my @flexcut.tools to carve instead. The ink is oil based and not water miscible, so clean up requires vegetable oil first, and then soap and water. I didn't try the brayer as it is larger than I needed, but the ink and rubber(lino) work well and print evenly.

Considering the price, I would give this kit 3/5 barens.

Details:
Multi-carving tool - dangerously dull
Ink - smooth, but difficult to clean up . Does comes with a small amount of red, yellow, blue and black which is nice.
Rubber - easy to carve with sharp tools, prints nicely, and comes with 3 - 4x6" pieces that are thick enough to carve both sides.
Comes with two round rubber pieces to make stamps.
Also comes with an ink tray and 4" brayer. So for $35 plus tax, it's a pretty good deal to get started with block printing, but I would recommend splurging for a @speedball_art multi-tool.

Today was such a wonderful day. Phil and I dropped off the last piece of art, and some freshly hand-printed t-shirts to PMAG for Saturdays opening. We got a sneak peak of how the birds will be hung!!

We then walked Hugh along the river and took him to our favourite off-leash park in @citypittmeadows where he got to have a good rip around. After that, we went to @waldoandtubbs.fortlangley to pick up Hugh's favourite treats before heading home.

Now I am curled up by the toilet with a heat blanket on my back and a hot water bottle on my front having a mild gallstone attack. I am so thankful my surgery consult is less than a week away as this thing is so unpredictable. I have been eating an extremely low fat diet and today I forgot about it and had a small oat chai latte. No treats, sweets, potato chips... an oat chai latte. Could that really have triggered this? One mistake that's not even that fatty? Ugh.

While out for a walk I saw this small cedar branch. It's frosty glow felt full of magic and ancient wisdom, alas, to which, I do not know. All will be revealed in time, as Mother Nature intends - for you and I and all others are connected. Through the cold winter months and into spring, so too, this moment shall pass.

Not everyday is going to be great. Mistakes happen and we learn from them. Or in my case, I forget how to measure them properly everytime because I only make frames once a year or so. Thankfully I only messed up two pieces before I noticed...

I rely on @philprajoux to stay up-to-date on current events and tell me what I need to know. It's not a great system, but otherwise I get overwhelmed and shut down completely which isn't ideal either.

I am so saddened by the state of the world and hope that my artwork can give people a brief respite to the state of things, if only for a moment.

Today I broke in a new @speedball_art brayer that I've been saving for over a year! It was lovely and squeak-free.

Art brings us together, allows us to express ourselves and we need more art, and less hate.

My world is back to birds for the next few weeks as I prepare for an exhibit in January at the Pitt Meadows Art Gallery. New birds will be plovers, waterfowl and a hawk. All birds carved and printed to-scale.

That's a wrap on my first 8-week Printmaking Exploration course at @pdacoquitlam. I have to say, it was absolutely wonderful!!

I am so grateful to the 8 participants who signed up and threw themselves into the magical world of printmaking with me. It was a great group of people, who have become my comparison point for all future classes.

Together we made:
Lego print
Foam board print
Collagraph relief print
Collagraph etched print
Kitchen lithograph print
2 linocut prints
Silkscreen prints

It was a big learning curve for me, in terms of putting together a course syllabus, creating weekly handouts, packing and prepping for a different type of printmaking every week, and time management. I now feel confident in creating new, more in-depth classes for each type of printmaking, which will allow participants to explore their preferred print medium.

Thank you @pdacoquitlam and all the lovely people who showed up to class ready to learn and create!!

Extremely grateful to the @langleyartscouncil for the opportunity to have some of my relief prints available for rent through their new Art and Sales Rental program.

Tonight at the launch party, I found out that 6/8 of my pieces have been rented out to @tinhorncreek! I look forward to seeing them hung up at the vineyard!!

Although it looks like it was just @alana_evans_art and me, it was a great turn out with lots of lovely people at the opening. I'm glad I didn't let my anxiety talk me out of going tonight!

Phil and I have been watching Alone, and this one landscape shot was so beautiful that I took a screen shot(swipe to see). I haven't spent much time watercolour painting lately, and thought I would give it a go. It's not great, it's not bad, it is what it is. Need to practice.

A growing hobby of mine is baking sourdough bread. After two years, I finally feel like I have it somewhat figured out but obviously still working on slicing. I had no idea that my hair could look THAT ginger. Thanks @philprajoux for catching my true beauty😆

Another successful trial!

Using lego is a great budget friendly way to explore relief printing. You can often find mixed bags of it at thrift stores and the combination of designs are endless.

For this trial, I went with a city scape. I wanted to see if the height of the LEGO would fit through the press and it did.

After hours of research, I found a spray paint that will adhere to galvanized steel and I am so delighted with the result. I went with @krylonbrand fusion all in one spray paint with a hammered black finish. The result is a slightly shimmery black with some texture. It suits the piece and I am so thrilled!

This is not a collaboration with Krylon, but if I keep using the product and gain enough followers, maybe it could be! If you're looking for a spray paint that will stick to difficult surfaces, give Fusion all in one a try!!

After 10 months, a huge learning curve, and a lesson in paint with galvanized steel, this piece is almost ready to go to @langleyartscouncil for an upcoming exhibit.

Being accepted the the ArtsPacific show has given me the push to get this piece finished and renewed my desire to pursue metal sculpting.

I ask myself why am I so stiff and sore all the time...this Molly, this is why.

I don't know how much this weighs, but I know that my very strong husband, @philprajoux who weight lifts 6x a week, also struggled to lift this off the table for me when I was finished adding that base piece.

Thankful to @twinrinksphysiotherapy for working on my shoulder tendons. I have definitely overdone it the last few days and appreciate the care and exercise routine to work on being pain free!

I had such a great time last night making art at @snaginthevalley last night and I am super excited to explore more reduction printing.

On another note, I've been struggling alot with overwhelm lately so I am going to try a social media detox and see if that helps me reset. I feel weird announcing it, but I've realized how much time I spend endlessly scrolling for no reason and how much it is affecting my well being. Hopefully a few days off will give me some clarity on how I can move forward using Instagram without having it suck up my time.

Tonight I tackled a 3-colour reduction print(which I've never done before) in just 3.5hours!! I printed an edition of 8 on paper as well as 6 t-shirts. The first edition and 5 t-shirts were taken home by raffle winners, and I met some really nice people.

A couple of my original mini watercolours and ink found new homes too!! What a great night.

The update no one asked for but everyone needs: the kittens I raised from two weeks old are now 8month old cats! George is quite a big boy and Louise is a dainty lady. They are 100% my mom's cats, and could really care less about anyone else.

They got they first catnip toy from @waldoandtubbs.fortlangley yesterday. From the video, do you think they enjoyed it?
