This is a European Bee-eater which is a migrating bird that can be found in France. True to their name, they eat bees and wasps, catching them in flight.

this is my last reveal video before sharing the final collaborative giant Lino puzzle put together by @maximuskblack for @pebeo_officiel . The finished piece is 3ft x 8ft, made up of hundred of small linocuts made by people all over North America.

In a time with so much turmoil, being a part of this community project helped me feel connected to people I've never met, who live across Canada, and the US. I am grateful this project came to me at a time I was struggling, with a broken thumb and gallstone surgery looming, it gave me something else to focus on.

Thank you Max, thank you Pébéo, and thank you to everyone who watches my content and participates with comments, encourages me to keep making, signs up for my workshops and classes, buys my art, and hires me for commissions. I appreciate each and every one of you!!

I think it's important to show that not all prints come out as planned. This one was really challenging to get a solid print for some reason. Why? I don't know. Too much ink, not enough ink, too much pressure, I smudged it when I put the paper down weirdly, I looked at it wrong...

When working with new products it often feels like you're starting all over, and in a way, you are. Different viscosities, humidities, papers, pressure... there are SO many variables. There are so many variables with printmaking, that often when a printmaker finds an ink they like, they swear by it, and won't try another. I have to admit, until I met @maximuskblack I was one of those people. I had the ink I liked, and used that ink only. I even bought a bunch of other kinds of ink on sale last year, but have been too scared to try them.

If you're just starting out with relief printing. Be kind to yourself. It's a medium that you never stop learning!

Personally, I am grateful to be expanding my knowledge and skill of products.

About the materials - Pebeo ink is water soluable but once dry, it is permanent, which means you can add watercolour to your prints without the ink bleeding! Previously this was only acheivable with oil based inks. The clean up is super easy too, just water!

The brayer has a good weight, rolls easily and evenly, for smooth application.

The paper is thin yet durable. It's much thinner than what I'm used to printing on so it did take a little getting used to.

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with these tools and materials, and grateful to @maximuskblack for involving me in this project!

How unbelievably unnatural is it to stand in front of a camera and look directly into it?!? I'm sorry that I can't take it seriously. I'll try again with another piece.

I had so much fun making this postcard submission for Art Mail- the global watercolour gallery created and hosted by @winsorandnewton

To join in, all you have to do is purchase any Winsor and Newton product from participating art stores around the globe, (in BC, that's @opusartsupplies) in the month of May, and you get a free pack of postcards. In the pack, there is a pre-paid postcard that you art on, and then send it in the mail. That's it! You art will end up in London as part of a huge global watercolour gallery! You don't have to be a professional artist, you just have to make art using their product, and it's great watercolour and gouache! I think it is such an innovative global community building project, which is why I am blabbering on about it. Truly an ingenious idea from their marketing department.

I've been wanting to draw and paint these figs for a while and I'm really happy with how they turned out. I made a high resolution scan to possible get digital prints made at a later date with my other fruit watercolours. What fruit should I do next?

For serious though, I'm prepping to paint my @winsorandnewton postcard submission that I picked up last week from @opusartsupplies !!

I decided to stick with the fruit theme I've been working on lately, and drew a bundle of figs. I like to start my watercolour pieces with a fine line ink drawing for a more illustrative feel.

You can get your pack of postcards free with any purchase of Winsor and Newton purchase for the whole month of May. It's a great incentive to try something new, or get back to a forgotten medium. 10ish years ago, I bought these Setacolor fabric paints on Granville Island, at a place that no longer exists.

Yesterday, I was talking with @maximuskblack about Setacolor fabric paint and I wondered if they would work with screen printing, so today I dusted off the paints I had and went to town on upcycled Jean patches.

The answer is a resounding YES! Not only do they work, they have an incredible shelf life. I've had these paints for 10 years and not only are they not dried out, they work wonderfully!

Now I will use one of these patches to mend @philprajoux torn jeans.

3. You're using sharp tools which makes you look tough and mysterious.
4. You get to walk around flipping a spoon for no reason.
5. You start to build weird callouses that make handshakes awkward, leaving the recipient wondering what would cause such rough skin.

More over, carving spoons with @flexcut.tools Carvin' Jack makes me feel like anything is possible. With a bit more practice, I could go on nature walks and leave the forest with faces engraved into living trees to spook the next generation, and that feel me with glee.

For some reason I'm really into drawing fruit right now. Something about the bright colours make me happy. What about you?

While my thumb is about 80% back in business, my desire to become ambidextrous in my art practice has only just begun.

So far I have 20 small pieces made using my non-dominant hand. As my thumb is getting stronger, I find myself reaching for everything with my left hand, but choose to sit in discomfort to use my right hand. It's slow, painfully slow, but the progress from one piece to the next is encouraging! Would you be interested in fruit art? Let me know!!

This is my second spoon using @flexcut.tools spoon blanks with their multi tool carving set and carvin' jack 2.0.

The design is made to be comfortable to hold for ambidextrous use.

As a printmaker, there's nothing more satisfying than peeling the print to reveal the work! When there's multiple layers, each layer has the potential for an irreversible mistake so the reveal is that much sweet when it works out!

This is my 5th ever reduction print, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. I'm so used to working from dark to light with acrylic painting, so having to think from light to dark is very confusing.

What to see more reduction printing? Let me know.

On Tuesday I declared that I wouldn't be carving until the full 6 week recovery post gallbladder removal had past.

On Wednesday I decided I couldn't wait to start this reduction print I've been dreaming of for the past 5 months.

Wednesday night while hand-pressing the first print, I realized that I should have listened to my Tuesday declaration. Watch full reel to see the moment it happened!

Thankfully the ring-washer press worked a treat and I successfully pulled the first layer of this 6-colour reduction print.

I immediately carved the second layer because I am so excited! I really am pushing my limits here.

On Tuesday I declared that I wouldn't be carving until the full 6 week recovery post gallbladder removal had past.

On Wednesday I decided I couldn't wait to start this reduction print I've been dreaming of for the past 5 months.

Wednesday night while hand-pressing the first print, I realized that I should have listened to my Tuesday declaration. Watch full reel to see the moment it happened!

Thankfully the ring-washer press worked a treat and I successfully pulled the first layer of this 6-colour reduction print.

I immediately carved the second layer because I am so excited! I really am pushing my limits here.

After yesterday's workshop, it's to these right-handed ink and watercolours for me because healing from a broken thumb and cholecystectomy(gallbladder removal) is slower than I would like, and I keep overdoing it.

Would I love to be carving and printing, or hammering metal? Yes!

Am I still slowly working away at custome pieces I should be waiting a few more weeks before working on? Yes!

But anyone who know an artist and/or someone with adhd, knows that they need to keep their hands busy to stay sane, so I've settled on becoming ambidextrous while I rehab my dominant thumb and refrain from lifting more than 10lbs for four more weeks.

Today's workshop at Abbotsford Rec Centre was enjoyed by all. At least, that's what everyone said to my face. We combined Monoprinting and collage to create eccentric pieces of art!

Participants experimented colour mixing with @speedball_art primary screen printing inks, to create monoprints. We then cut those pieces up and rearranged them using templates to create either an owl, a star, a cup of coffee or a bunch of bananas.

The end results are 100% unique pieces and I am so proud of the ladies who participated. Before today, no one had tried Monoprinting or collage, and I believe most people went home with the desire to try it again on their own! I am calling this inaugural workshop a win!!

Collage is an amazing way to use up scrap pieces paper, old magazines, painted canvas you weren't happy with, you name it. It forces you to look at colour and shape in a way that's unlike other art mediums. 10/10 recommend.

Often the hardest part of trying something new is getting the courage to do it. I would go to far as to say that's at least 70% of the battle, and 30% doing/learning the new skill.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm having a good time finding out. I'm inspired by @shayla_giroux and a post she made about being intimidated about carving spoons until she just decided one day to do it. Now she's teaching others how to carve spoons!!

So go out there and carve yourself a spoon, or whatever it is you've been wanting to try!!

I'm going to use this spoon for magical tea elixirs.
