PRINTMAKER | PAINTER | ILLUSTRATION |COMMUNITY ENGAGED ARTS

Molly Gray is a multidisciplinary, neurodivergent artist who lives and works in the township of Langley, B.C. Canada on the unceded territory of Kwantlen First Nation. She specializes in linocut printmaking, painting, and graphic illustration, and also enjoys working with textiles, and metal sculpting. Molly’s practice is driven by a deep desire to create with her hands, which gives her a sense of purpose and joy. She creates each piece through the lens of childish wonder, without expectation or judgement, which allows the act of creating to become a practice of mindfulness. Her work often features Northwest Coast Canadian landscapes as well as local flora and fauna, and ranges from fluid impressionism to illustrative realism. Gray showcases her work online and has displayed in galleries in British Columbia. She shares her knowledge of art and craft at in-person workshops throughout the Fraser Valley, as well as through videos shared on social media, which can be found under the name Molly Gray Art (@mollygrayart).

AVIFAUNA - Birds of B.C.
2022-present

I have long been fascinated with birds of all sorts, often shouting “HAWK” in excitement when I see a bird of prey in the sky, or singing back to chickadees, and squawking with the crows. Avifauna, is a series of relief prints and watercolour, depicting birds of BC with a focus on the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and Southern BC Coast. From song, to pollination, to pest removal, each bird plays an important role in our ecosystem, with many populations dwindling due to loss of habitat and climate change. It is my hope that this interactive exhibit will encourage viewers to engage in conversations of how we can protect these creatures from becoming endangered, or worse, extinct in the years to come. Currently there are 67 two-dimensional works, as well as one three-dimensional piece that allows viewers to better understand the printmaking process. I intend to continue to add to the series until I have represented the majority of the birds in BC. This is one of the sections I am currently working on. I have around 14 birds still to photograph. Stay tuned!
